Sending SMS Responsibly
Any message that doesn't meet the following three conditions is defined as spam:
- Consent – the message must be sent with consent of the recipient
- Identify – the message must contain accurate information about the person or organisation that authorised the sending of the message
- Unsubscribe – the message must contain a functional 'unsubscribe' facility to allow you to opt out of receiving messages from that source.
Messages do not have to be sent out in bulk to be considered spam. Under law, a single electronic message can also be considered spam.
We offer you the chance to be responsible when sending SMS absolutely free with use of our long-code.
CONSENT - Opt-in from code
It is your responsibility to ensure that your subscribers have given consent to be on your list. To help with this we have cut and paste code for each list that is opt-in compliant. Use this code on your site to collect and add contact details directly to your list.
IDENTIFY - CallerID or In-message
You can identify your company or yourself within the body of the message or you may want to send the message from a known mobile number or even a company name.
UNSUBSCRIBE - Opt-out via SMS
We make it easy by having the opt-out instruction added automatically to your message if you choose that option. A short message "Opt-out reply STOP 123" will be added to your message. The message will be sent from our long code so that when user replies their number is removed from the list ID "123"
If you are using a custom CallerID you will need to change the opt-out instruction slightly to "Opt-out SMS STOP 123 to +61 429 705 882" as you can see the message is slightly longer so you need to choose wether the CallerID is important when identifying you.
What happens if I am caught spammimg?
BurstSMS encourages responsible use of its systems. If it is found that you have been using BurstSMS to send messages to people without consent your account will be suspended immediately and and credits will be held indefinately. BurstSMS will cooperate with any investigation regarding SPAM that is sent by a user from our system.
